[Asis-l] Karl Fast Joins the Information Architecture and Knowledge Management Faculty at Kent State University

Karl V. Fast has accepted a position of Assistant Professor in the 
Information Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM) program at 
Kent State University (http://iakm.kent.edu).  He will begin his 
teaching and research at the Kent campus Fall 2007.

A Ph.D. candidate at the University of Western Ontario, Karl Fast is 
completing his degree requirements in Library and Information 
Science.  His dissertation work highlights his expertise in the areas 
of information architecture, information usability and engineering, 
digital libraries, and ubiquitous computing.  His research interests 
concern how interaction with different forms of information, 
especially visual representations, can support knowledge activities 
and lead to processes that are closely aligned with user tasks, 
information and work content, and representational form.

Karl Fast has been awarded numerous scholarships and teaching awards 
including the Teaching Honour Roll Award of Excellence from the 
University of Western Ontario.  His list of publications and 
presentations are extensive.  They include publications in such 
journals as the Journal of Digital Information and the Canadian 
Journal for Information and Library Science, presentations at and 
proceedings publications with the Information Architecture Summit and 
the American Society for Information Science and Technology and 
industry conference presentations at Intranets and Intracom, among many others.

He is an active member of  the Information Architecture Institute, of 
which he is a founding member, and the American Society for 
Information Science and Technology.  He is also active with the 
annual Information Architecture Summit, where he has spearheaded the 
research track.

Kent State University is pleased to have him join the faculty and is 
looking forward to his facilitation of the vibrancy of the IAKM program.
