Assistant Professor Position in Digital Archiving and Preservation
School of Library and Information Science

The School of Library and Information Science at Kent State 
University is seeking applicants for a new tenure-track position at 
the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Digital Archiving and 
Preservation.  The successful candidate will be responsible for 
building and sustaining a new concentration in digital archiving and 
preservation including a possible certificate program in this 
area.  The School supports one of the largest professional library 
and information science programs in North America and offers the only 
American Library Association-accredited master's degree program in 
Ohio.  The master's degree is offered at the School's two campuses in 
Kent and Columbus and through an electronic distance education 
network throughout the state.  The position is available as early as 
January 2007 but will remain open until filled.  However, we are 
striving to make a hiring decision by the end of the year.

The successful candidate must be able to provide instruction in 
digital archiving and/or preservation and also provide instruction 
for at least one of the following core courses: Foundations of 
Library and Information Science, Organization of Information, Access 
to Information, Management of Library and Information Centers, and 
Information Technology.

Teaching competencies or research interests are also sought in any of 
the following areas:

*         Digital asset management
*         Electronic records management
*         Cultural and heritage informatics
*         Digital media
*         Trusted digital repositories
*         Archives

Qualifications include a Masters degree in Library and Information 
Science or a related field and a completed doctorate or substantial 
progress toward completion of a doctorate in Library and Information 
Science or a related field. The candidate should be able to 
demonstrate knowledge and experience in digital archiving and/or 
digital preservation. Experience and/or interest in synchronous or 
asynchronous distance learning is highly desirable.  Nine-month 
appointment; summer teaching and workshops may be available.  Salary 
is competitive; benefits are excellent.

The School of Library and Information Science is part of the College 
of Communication and Information.  Other units in the college are the 
School of Communication Studies, the School of Journalism and Mass 
Communication, and the School of Visual Communication Design.  The 
College also possesses a unique master's program in Information 
Architecture and Knowledge Management (IAKM), which is administered 
by the School of Library and Information Science.

networks and has undertaken major funding commitments to use 
information technologies to promote economic development.
