Dear ASIS&T Chapter Leaders,

Below you will find a list of candidates for Chapter Assembly
representatives on two different ASIS&T committees: the ASIS&T Nominations
Committee and the Chapter of the Year Jury.

I want to extend my gratitude to the Search Committee for these positions.
Members of the Committee were: Allison Brueckner (Chair), Margret
Branchofsky and Linda McCann. They did a stellar job, creating ballots
with very strong candidates. Please take some time to review the candidate
biographies. Copies will be available at the Chapter Assembly meeting,
Sunday, November 5, 8:30 am.

Each Chapter Assembly Representative at the meeting will have a vote on
these positions.

The ASIS&T Nominations Committee is a particularly important committee.
The members of the Nominations Committee choose the candidates who will run
for ASIS&T President and the Executive Board. Our representative on the
Committee will represent Chapter Assembly's interests in the discussions of
who will be on the ballot.

The Chapter of the Year Award Jury plays a significant role for Chapter
Assembly. The members of this committee judge the programs and activities
that you all have worked so hard to produce.

If you know that you will not have your Chapter Assembly representative at
the Chapter Assembly meeting, any current Chapter Assembly Officer in good
membership standing can represent your chapter.

Information on the Chapter Assembly meeting agenda will be forthcoming
later this week.

We hope to see you at Chapter Assembly and at the Chapter Leaders Planning
Breakfast, Tuesday morning, 7 a.m.!

Beata

Beata Panagopoulos
ASIS&T Chapter Assembly Director

Chapter Assembly Ballot 2006-07

ASIST NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE (select one; one vote per chapter)
The Nominations Committee shall consist of five members, including the Past
President, who shall be Chair. The four other members shall not be members
of the Board of Directors. At the meeting of the Chapter Assembly and the
SIG Cabinet which take place during the annual conference, each body shall
designate one member of ASIST to serve as a member of the Nominations
Committee for the next election.

Marija Dalbello (New Jersey)

Candidate Statement:
Marija Dalbello is an Associate Professor of Library and Information
Science at Rutgers University. She is an ASIS&T member since 1999 and has
been involved with the organization at the local, national and
international level. At the local level, as Program Chair (2002-2003),
elected Chair (2003-2004) and member of the Distinguished Lectureship
committee of the New Jersey chapter of ASIS&T. As chair, she revitalized
the chapter through involvement of student members at Rutgers resulting in
the consolidation of the organization archive, and completion of an oral
history project. The history of the chapter was published as a
commemorative pamphlet for the 30th anniversary (coauthored with Ellen
Pozzi). At the national level, she held appointments to the Chapter
Executive Board. Internationally, she collaborates with the colleagues of
the European chapter through Rutgers-sponsored summer conference and
seminar, Libraries in the Digital Age, which is held annually in Dubrovnik,
Croatia. Her research focuses on the influence of culture and society on
documentary practices, documents and representations that are used to
diffuse knowledge. Within that broad framework, she published on transition
from print to digital formats, with a focus on the emergent digital
libraries; her other interests are in the transformation of visual culture
and modernity. She is the subject editor for digital libraries and digital
humanities of dLIST (Digital Library of Information Science and
Technology), a cross-institutional, subject-based, open access digital
archive for the information sciences. She has earned her Ph.D. in
Information Studies at the University of Toronto and Masters of Library and
Information Science at Kent State University. If elected to the Nominations
Committee, she plans to bring her perspective as researcher of technology
innovation in information science field to her concern on how research and
practice are connected to the continuing mission of ASIS&T, and to a
transnational community of research and practice.

Rachael Green Clemens (California)

Candidate Statement:
Since moving to California I have been extremely fortunate to be part of
the vibrant Los Angeles Chapter of ASIS&T serving as Workshop Chair,
Programs Chair, Chair, and Nominations Chair in the past five years.
Connections sparked through LACASIS have made significant differences both
in my work and professional development –connections being both people
themselves and the ideas/information they’ve shared. What draws me to
ASIS&T is the mix of practitioner / application research and the more
theoretical often philosophical research. Both involve imaginative and
innovative people with a drive to improve the collective storage and
retrieval of “information”.

As Distance Education Librarian at California State University Fullerton
since 2002 I develop access and instruction options for on-campus, online
and satellite campus students. Previously I was a public relations
administrator for Lexus and corporate librarian for Toyota Motor Sales. My
MLS is from Texas Woman’s University and BA in Philosophy from Concord
College, WV.

Chapter Assembly Ballot 2006-07

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding chapters for their
contributions to ASIST and the advancement of information science. The
Chapter-of-the-Year Award Jury shall be composed of six members (five

Executive Director (ex officio without vote); the Chapter Assembly Director
or Deputy, who shall serve as chair, two members appointed by the Chapter

 Ken Varnum (NEASIS&T)

Candidate Statement:
I joined ASIS&T and the New England Chapter's Program Committee about 18
months ago as a result of an excellent program put on by NEASIS&T. Since
then, I have been involved in planning the chapter's sessions, served on
the NEASIS&T chapter's national conference paper award jury, and have been
elected Chapter secretary. I have greatly enjoyed working with such a
vibrant group of people.

I would welcome the opportunity to learn more about the national
organization and to be part of the process that recognizes excellence in
chapter activities. In many ways, chapter activities that are the
lifeblood of ASIS&T activities for many members. Recognizing excellence --
and presenting examples of outstanding programming as models for other
chapters -- is a worthwhile and serious activity.

 Christine Connors (Arizona)

Candidate Statement:
Serving on the board of NEASIS&T this past year has been an incredibly
stimulating experience. It was wonderful to be part of creative,
out-of-the-box thinking balanced with core values and shared among a
diverse group of professionals. It would be a privilege to learn from a
broader spectrum of ASIS&T members and honor those chapters which have made
significant contributions to the advancement of our professions. I have
only recently moved to Arizona and welcome the opportunity to remain active
in ASIS&T as I meet new local friends and colleagues
