The University of Minnesota Libraries seek an innovative, energetic and
service-oriented professional for the position of Director,
Agricultural, Biological and Environmental Sciences Department (ABE) in
the Academic Programs (AP) Division. The University is undergoing a
strategic positioning process and the Libraries are fully engaged in
this process, developing a number of forward looking projects designed
to make libraries an integral part of the university of the future. The
director will have exciting opportunities to help shape new programs and
initiatives such as our budding repository (University Digital
Conservancy), the SMART Learning Commons, and an outreach program with
the university’s Office of Business Development.
Responsibilities include collaboration with other AP Directors and
library leaders to create a shared vision for the future; develop
dynamic services and programs that anticipate and fulfill the changing
needs of our clientele; build strong relationships with the university
science community and relevant local communities. As administrative head
of ABE, the Director guides the department in management activities such
as planning and resource management, process improvement, and assessment
of services and collections.
Required qualifications include an* *ALA-accredited Masters degree in
Library/ Information Science, or equivalent combination of an advanced
degree with relevant experience, three or more years experience in
progressively responsible positions within an academic library or
related environment and successful supervisory experience, including the
ability to lead and motivate librarians and staff. An additional degree
in a biological, agricultural, or environmental sciences field, or
significant discipline-specific experience in an academic library is
preferred.
