Good afternoon LACASIS enthusiasts!
We want YOU to become more involved in the Los Angeles Chapter of ASIS&T
- please consider this call for LACASIS executive board positions.
We are gearing up for another exciting year of programs and activities
and we would like to solicit more "LACASIS Enthusiasts" to become
involved. Specifically we are looking for people to serve on the
Executive Board - several opportunities are available.
First let me describe just a few of the benefits of becoming more
active:
1. Help shape the programs and activities of this Los Angeles
ASIS&T Chapter: if you want to explore certain research, technological
or practical subject areas, serving on the Executive can provide these
opportunities. For example during my time as Chair I was honored to
invite Dr. Eugene Garfield to speak at one of our programs (in case you
are unaware, Gene is one of the "gods" in library and information
science especially in the area of bibliometrics and citation analysis).
Doubtful I would have had the chance to get to know him without serving
in this capacity. Here is your opportunity to solicit those speakers
you've always wanted to hear!
2. Opportunity to contribute to the profession in a very meaningful
and visible manner: as you know LACASIS garnered the Chapter of the
Year Award at the national conference in November - so being involved in
a professional organization at the Executive Board level adds
substantial content to your professional or academic portfolio
3. Springboard to involvement in ASIS&T at the national level:
several of our previous Executive Board members have earned positions at
the national level including Chapter Assembly Director, Chapter Assembly
Deputy Director and ASIS&T Director at Large.
4. One of my favorites - getting to know the wonderful people in
the library and information science community of Southern California.
As I hope you've experienced at our programs, this is a really fun group
of folks. I guarantee you will enjoy new friendships. On a related
note, exploring this network of people keeps you aware of the various
career and job opportunities in the area (this should be a prime
attraction to recent or upcoming graduates).
Please consider this call for prospective board members seriously.
There is some time commitment involved naturally but this group is very
supportive and steps up to share the load.
We are currently seeking candidates for the following positions:
* Chapter Chair (duties involve: chairing our monthly board
meetings, helping to guide the chapter's activities for the year,
typically serving as the moderator/emcee at programs, solidifying the
advisory council for the following term, compiling the annual report to
ASIS&T)
* Chapter Program Chair / Chair-Elect (duties include: leadership
role in planning and coordinating programs throughout the year,
assisting the chair with any "business-type" issues, moving into the
chair position for the following term)
* Treasurer (duties include: keeping accurate records of our
financial affairs and submitting those to the national organization)
If you have interest in any of these positions or perhaps some of the
Advisory Council positions, please let me know. I'll be happy to
talk/email with you to answer any questions or provide more information.
The chapter manual available at: http://public.csusm.edu/lacasis/about/
provides more details on the various offices.
Thanks so much and look forward to hearing from you soon.
-Rachael
