Position Announcement
The Office of Strategic Initiatives at The Library of Congress has embarked on major digital library initiatives, part of which involves the design and development of digital repository systems. These systems will support acquisition, preservation and access for a large number of digital collections spanning a wide variety of content types and formats. We are seeking qualified individuals to join us in our effort to build these library and repository systems of the future. Successful candidates will have extensive software development experience. Working knowledge of digital library technologies and experience in digital library projects will be regarded very positively. Successful candidates will work as members of a team to design, develop, document and support new or existing software systems within a repository development program. These individuals will also serve as liaisons between customers, vendors and information technology management throughout the development process.
Within this position, the selected candidate will:
- Perform work involved in applying analytical processes and technical expertise to plan, design, and implement new and improved information systems to meet the business requirements of customer organizations.
- Consult with customers to identify and specify requirements, and develop overall functional and systems requirements. Develop cost estimates of new or modified systems and plan their implementation.
- Perform work involving the analysis, design, documentation, development, modification, testing, installation, implementation, and support of new or existing software systems. Participate in evaluation, selection, and configuration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software or on developing customized applications. Integrate software components, possibly implemented in different programming languages, to build complete systems that meet requirements.
