Mark your calendar for the 2006 Joint Conference on Digital Libraries 
(JCDL), which will take place June 11 - 15, 2006 at the University of North 
Carolina at Chapel Hill.

With a theme of "Opening Information Horizons," the international event 
encompasses the many meanings of the term “digital libraries,” including 
new forms of information institutions; operational information systems with 
all manner of digital content; new means of selecting, collecting, 
organizing, and distributing digital content; digital preservation and 
archiving; and theoretical models of information media, including document 
genres and electronic publishing.

This year's program will include peer-reviewed papers and posters as well 
as demonstrations and two plenary sessions:

"Getting Books Online: Practices and Strategies." A plenary panel on 
Monday, June 12.

Panelists include:

* Daniel Clancy, Engineer Director for Google Print
* David Ferriero, Andrew W. Mellon Director and Chief Executive of The 
Research Libraries at The New York Public Library
* Daniel Greenstein, University Librarian, California Digital Library

On Tuesday, June 13, Jonathan Zittrain of the Berkman Center for Internet & 
Society, Harvard Law School Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford 
will present "Open Information: Redaction, Restriction, and Removal."

“JCDL 06 will celebrate the progress of making digital information 
accessible to people around the world, consider ways that digital libraries 
can help individuals achieve their goals and assist people from around the 
globe to understand one another,” said Dr. Gary Marchionini, conference 
chair. “We invite you to attend this premier research and development 
conference in the friendly venue of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Join us!”
