Subject: NFAIS 2007 Annual Conference: Creating Change
PROGRAM FOR 2007 NFAIS ANNUAL CONFERENCE NOW AVAILABLE
The preliminary program and registration information for the 2007 NFAIS
Annual Conference, Creating Change: Growth Opportunities in the Wake of
Disruption, are now available.
Preliminary Program: http://www.nfais.org/2007_Tier_Program.htm
Registration: http://www.nfais.org/2007_Tier_Registration.htm
The conference will discuss the disruptive forces that have been released by
the fusion of sophisticated technology and the born-digital generation and
focus on the opportunities that publishers, libraries and information
technology companies can leverage to create change and generate growth for
their own organizations.
Lawrence Wilkinson, co-founder of the Global Business Network (GBN) (see:
http://www.gbn.com/PersonBioDisplayServlet.srv?pi=21860) will open the
conference with a keynote presentation on the disruptive forces that are
changing the Information Industry, the current industry dynamics, and his
perspective on what is required to successfully navigate forward. Outsell,
Inc. will provide a measurement of the level of disruption that has already
occurred, and a panel of information consultants will share their insights
from the field on what they see as the problems, challenges and
opportunities facing content and technology providers and the steps that
organizations are taking to successfully adapt to change.
Monday will open with CJ Rayhill, Chief Information Officer, OReilly Media,
Inc. (see http://conferences.oreillynet.com/cs/et2006/view/e_spkr/1917)
discussing how their organization has responded to disruption and how they
view the current and future role of content providers in a web-based
environment. Key executives from Associated Press, IEEE, the California
Digital Library and other organizations will also discuss how their
organizations are creating change through collaboration, technology
adoption, new business models, market outreach, new distribution channels,
etc. And Larry Keeley, President and co-founder of Doblin, Inc. (see
http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/05_31/b3945413.htm), will
present his perspective on how organizations can effectively implement
change and innovation and the metrics that should be used to accurately
measure success.
The remainder of the conference will focus on the Web as an information
platform and the new and emerging information/communication technologies
that are changing the future of information access and retrieval: Web 2.0
technologies, the web-enabled desktop, and the wireless technologies that
will ultimately create a tetherless information environment! In closing,
Tony Hey, Corporate Vice President for Technical Computing, Microsoft, Inc.
(see http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/exec/tonyhey/default.mspx) will
present a final keynote on the future of computing technologies and what
that future holds for content providers.
If you want to learn more about the current impact of disruption on the
information landscape, the new technologies that are shaping the future of
information access and retrieval, and how information and technology
providers, librarians and information professionals are approaching the
difficult task of creating change, plan to attend the 49th NFAIS Annual
Conference. It will provide you with diverse perspectives from which you
can take a new look at your organization, products and services, and begin
to tackle the innovative thinking required to take advantage of the
opportunities left in the wake of disruption.
