Digital Services Librarian

The Kurt F. Wendt Library seeks a creative, energetic, and
service-oriented professional to provide leadership in the development
and implementation of digital services and collections.  Reporting to
the Director, the Digital Services Librarian will join an innovative and
collaborative staff in developing, implementing and providing exemplary,
user-centered information services. Wendt Library provides access to
state-of-the-art information resources and high-quality assistance to
students, researchers and instructors.

Wendt Library serves a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students in
the College of Engineering and Departments of Computer Sciences,
Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, and Statistics at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. Its collection includes nearly 300,000 book and
serial volumes, 1.5 million reports and government documents, and serves
as a US Patent and Trademark Depository Library.  Wisconsin TechSearch
(WTS) is the fee-based information outreach program of Wendt Library,
offering reference services and document delivery to business and
industry from Wendt and more than 40 libraries and information centers

Job Responsibilities
•  Provide leadership and expertise in developing digital services and
collections at Wendt Library
•  Keep current with the latest technologies and develop and implement
ideas for applications in new and current services.  Close collaboration
with Wendt’s Director of Computer Services and other technical experts
within the campus libraries and on campus will be required.
•  In collaboration with the Director, lead scholarly communications
initiatives at Wendt Library.  This may include, but is not limited to:
keeping staff current on the latest in scholarly communication; working
on digital publishing initiatives; working with faculty and researchers
in the College of Engineering and other departments Wendt serves; and
working with campus libraries staff on related issues, including
building the collections in the institutional repository (Minds at UW,
http://minds.wisconsin.edu .)
•  Work with the web development team to maintain a highly usable website
•  Provide reference assistance at an integrated library services desk
and increasingly at online and mobile reference service points
•  As liaison to the Departments for Computer Science, Electrical &
Computer Engineering, and related research centers, develop and
implement programs that effectively and creatively respond to their
information needs
•  Select monographs in Computer Science and Electrical & Computer
Engineering
•  Lead efforts to digitize collections.  This will involve working
closely with staff at the UW Digital Collections Center.
•  Participate in an active instructional program, focusing on
developing sessions on the use of technologies and tools that enhance
productivity (e.g. RSS, Refworks, Blogs, etc)
•  Work with the Instruction Coordinator and with faculty to integrate
information skills into the curriculum and to support individual and
group research in Computer Science and Electrical & Computer Engineering
•  Participate in system-wide initiatives and serve on committees and
task forces both in the College of Engineering and in the campus
libraries as appropriate
•  Participate in professional development activities


Qualifications

Required Qualifications: An ALA-accredited MLS An ALA-accredited MLS or
equivalent advanced degree in library or information science;
demonstrated ability and interest in integrating new technologies into
the delivery of information services; interest in providing outreach to
faculty, students and researchers; strong commitment to user-centered
service; strong web development skills; basic familiarity with
programming; an interest in scholarly communications issues;
demonstrated interest in and awareness of current trends in the
profession; demonstrated interest in actively participating in
professional development activities; strong organizational skills;
excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;
initiative, flexibility and the ability to creatively adapt in a rapidly
changing environment; demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative
environment. Candidates must articulate a genuine interest and
enthusiasm for serving the engineering and science research community.

Desired Qualifications: Experience providing reference and/or
instructional services; experience in collection development; experience
with rich internet applications (e.g. flash); database management skills
(e.g. SQL); experience working with an engineering or science research
community; experience assessing services and collections; experience
using educational technology; experience or coursework in grant writing;
demonstrated project management skills; supervisory experience.
