University of Washington Faculty Position: Beverly Cleary Endowed
Professorship in Children & Youth Services

The Information School of the University of Washington is seeking an
outstanding individual to fill a senior tenure-track position in
children and youth services. The first endowed position of its kind,
the professorship is in honor of Beverly Cleary, internationally
renowned children's writer who graduated from the UW School of
Librarianship in 1939. Created with gifts from the Cleary family,
alumni, the library community and fans of Cleary's work, this
distinguished professorship seeks a senior scholar, who will lead the
Information School in having one of the largest and strongest children
and youth services programs in the country. Appointments are
anticipated for the rank of Professor commensurate with qualifications
and experience. Our new colleague will join a broad-based, inclusive
Information School with academic programs on the bachelors, masters and
doctoral levels. Faculty will teach across all programs.

In addition to holding a Ph.D., applicants for this unique position are
expected to exhibit:
*	A significant and nationally/internationally recognized
research agenda, including demonstrated publishing and funding record,
in children and youth services;
*	An understanding of the latest trends in research and service
provision to children and young adults;
*	Experience with the issues of diverse populations;
*	A history of working with organizations that serve children and
young adults;
*	Excellence in teaching;
*	Leadership, mentorship and engagement with the professional and
academic communities involved with children and young adults; and,
*	Experience working with doctoral students.

The Information School wishes to continue developing an active research
agenda in children and youth services. We seek an enthusiastic
individual who can bring additional breadth of expertise to our program,
including through curriculum development.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled. The University of Washington is building a
culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from
women and minority candidates. The University of Washington is an Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. The central Puget Sound region
hosts many notable public library systems, serving a diverse population
of over 750,000 children and their families. Several preeminent book
reviewing groups for youth provide an opportunity for collaboration
between school and public libraries.

Applicants should email, putting "Cleary" in the subject line, their
curriculum vitae, a letter of intent (including research and teaching
interests), the names of three references, and up to 3 samples of their
publications (attachments should be in PDF or Word format) to:
