Registration is now open for the CIRN 2005 conference which forms part
of  Information Society Week to be held in Cape Town from 22- 30 August.

Confirmed keynote speakers for CIRN 2005 'Building Partnerships for the
Information Society' 24-26 August include:
- Prof Wideman Nkuhlu, the Chair of NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa's
Development), Africa 
- Dr Satyanarayana, CEO of the National Institute of Smart Government at 
the International Institute of IT in Andhra Pradesh,India 
- Mr Flavio Zeni, Department of Public Admininstration and Development 
Management, UN, New York, USA 
- Mr Adama Samessekou, President of the Geneva WSIS preparatory process,
President African Academy of languages (ACALAN), Mali 
- Professor Stewart Marshall, University of the West Indies

The CIRN conference will include more than 90 selected presentations,
workshops and panels relevant to the social appropriation of ICT for
local benefit (Community Informatics). Major topics to be covered
include:
- Policies and strategies for successful Community Informatics
- The practice of Community Informatics
- Ethnographic and empowerment issues in Community Informatics
- Community Informatics as a critical component of successful e-Service
delivery
- Evaluation and assessment of Community Informatics interventions
- Infrastructure and systems for Community Informatics
- Education as a critical component of Community Informatics
- Community Informatics as a foundation for Government Partnerships

CIRN 2005 and the www conference (http://infow3@cput.ac.za) which are
being hosted by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology form part of
Information Society Week being conducted under the patronage of 

- Mr Ebrahim Rasoul (Premier of the Western Cape)
- Nomaindia Mfeketo (Executive Mayor of the City of Cape Town)
- Dr Marcus Balintulo (Interim Vice Chancellor, CPUT) and
- Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri (South African Minister for Communications)

Information Society Week in the Western Cape Province of South Africa
will focus on what the Information Society can do for small business,
civil society, youth and government.  It will consist of:
- a series of workshops, training sessions,
- demonstrations for all groups in civil society 
- a Civil Society Colloquium which will advance South African issues for
the Tunis phase of the WSIS
- three major conferences (CIRN2005, WWW and ICT for Women)
