New Look, New Tools, New Features: IEEE Xplore 2.0 Coming Soon
A major upgrade to the IEEE Xplore online delivery platform will soon offer
researchers a more functional design, enhanced searching and usability, and
an automated welcome page that recognizes users' subscriptions and access
rights.
IEEE Xplore 2.0 will provide subscribers with full-text searching of all
content -- currently more than 1.1 million documents -- and will enable
free, basic searches for all visiting researchers. Another new search
option will enable subscribers to focus their search on only the latest
content.
"The new features of IEEE Xplore are a direct result of the feedback we
have received from our subscribers," said Barbara Lange, IEEE Director of
Publications Business Development. "Many of our current customers will be
invited to test a beta version of the new interface in the coming weeks."
IEEE Xplore 2.0 will also include new, functional "homepages" for all IEEE
periodicals. Each homepage will provide a review of the publication's aim
and scope, along with links to all past and present issues. Author
manuscript submission information will also be available through the
homepages.
Also with the launch of IEEE Xplore 2.0, conference proceedings will be
grouped together to show title history, instead of displaying multiple
times in title listings.
Online support materials will also be reorganized, with specialized "help"
sections for librarians, IEEE Members, and authors.
IEEE Xplore 2.0 will be released early in the second quarter of 2005.
