M-F 8am - 5pm This is a temporary, year-to-year appointment with an ending date of 02/01/06 with a possibility of a renewal on an annual basis if program needs exist.
 
Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate University Librarian and in consultation with library faculty and staff, the Library Systems Head leads the design and implementation of new solutions and enhancements to existing technology and processes and develops long range technical answers that combine information and ideas in new, unprecedented ways. Proactively solves problems to keep all systems operating and interacting optimally and ensures compliance with University Information Technology policies and guidelines. Provides high-level support, including analysis, design, development, and implementation for a wide variety of Library electronic resources. These include hardware and specialized library applications and systems such as the integrated library system (OPAC), the library public web site and intranet, authentication and security systems, ILLiad, SFX, Metalib, and others. Directs and coordinates the activities of the technical staff in the Library Systems Section, including scheduling, task assignment, training and skills evaluation. The Section provides user support, performs initial assessment and research on all user issues, and resolves a wide range of technical problems, often of the highest complexity, with a diverse constituency of library users, both in-house and remote. The incumbent is expected to interact effectively with librarians, staff, managers, vendors, and others to understand and address problems. Other duties as assigned.
 
Essential Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Educational Technology, Communications or in a related area. Several years of experience directing the work of staff with technical expertise. Previous experience directing successful major information technology projects through team leadership. Several years of experience working in a library systems organization. Extensive experience with large, content-rich web sites including knowledge of best practices and standards, etc.
 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an academic library, including experience with an Integrated Library System (e.g., Innovative Interfaces), server setup and maintenance, information security analysis and information assurance. Experience designing and creating large, content-rich web sites, including 508 compliance, usability, etc. Subject matter expertise in library science preferred.
