Dr.Tariq
Dr. Tariq Ashraf , one of the winner of ASIST International Paper contest,
year 2003 , has recently joined Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow as
Librarian. IIM-Lucknow is one of the most prestigious Institutes,
established by government of India offering both Diploma and Fellow
programmes in Business Management.
Spread over 200 acres and situated in the capital city of Lucknow,
Institute boasts of a library which is considered in India as pride of
library profession. Spread over 32000 sq meter, library is housed in a
separate building which is an architectural beauty both in terms of its
aesthetics and functionality.
Library resources consist of 60,000 documents in print, electronic,
audio-visual and Micro formats, selected after rigorous scrutiny. Library
subscribes to nearly 600 print journals and 26 electronic databases
covering -e-Journals, Corporate, Legal and Statistical information. Other
library facilities include well equipped cyber and audio-visual labs,
research carols and Video Conferencing facilities which provide global
connectivity to faculty and students of the institute.
Library has recently taken a major initiative to bring its most of its
resources under a double click paradigm, providing a seamless twenty four
access . This includes developing an integrated library portal, conversion
of microforms into electronic format, harnessing appropriate web resources
and building a digital library for managing student and faculty generated
information.
Library opens for all 24 hours and all 365 days. It also has a separate
children section to cater to the needs of children living in the campus.
On his own professional front, Dr. Ashraf undertook an extensive
documentation of India;s parliamentary elections since their inception in
the year 1952 upto 14th election held in year 2004. The publication titled
as : Election 2004: A Profile of India's Parliamentary Elections Since
1952" has been published by Bookwell and consists of 850 pages. It was Dr.
Ashraf's 3rd publication
Dr. Ashraf has also been recently nominated to the Editorial Board of ILA
Bulletin, a quarterly journal published by Indian Library Association. He is
also Editor of MANLIBNET Review, a quarterly newsletter of Management
Libraries Network, New Delhi.
