TWO POSITIONS 
 
Cataloger for Serials and Electronic Resources
[Entry-Level]
 
The Cataloging Librarian performs original and complex copy cataloging,
including description and subject analysis, of print and electronic
materials that are both serial and monographic in nature.  Participates in
the building and maintenance of the Libraries¹ name and subject authority
files.  All professional catalogers within the NCSU Libraries work with copy
cataloging staff to provide LC subject headings and classification for copy
lacking these access points, and to provide feedback on difficult copy
cataloging decisions.  Participates in library planning, serves on
library-wide committees, task forces, and teams. Reports to the Principal
Cataloger.
 
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in and grasp of
current cataloging/metadata issues, as expressed by graduate coursework or
practical experience. Proven effectiveness working independently and in
teams is required.  Outstanding written and oral communications and
interpersonal skills are essential. Evidence of ability for ongoing
professional development and contribution. An ALA-accredited MLS or
equivalent advanced degree in library or information science is required.
Salary: competitive and commensurate with experience, minimum $40,000

 
Data Services Librarian
The Data Services Librarian develops and delivers spatial and numeric data
resources and services, including GIS that support teaching, research, and
extension at NC State. Consults with faculty and students to analyze data
needs and to locate and deliver data in appropriate formats. Participates in
the selection, organization, delivery, updating, and archiving of data
collections.  Collects and develops metadata and maintains awareness of
metadata standards and trends.  Provides instructional sessions and develops
Web-based tutorials. Participates in outreach and collaboration with state
and local government agencies. Reports to the Head, Government Information
Services.
 
The successful candidate will have experience with spatial and numeric data
resources and familiarity with current issues, technologies, and software
applications related to those resources.  Ability to identify, retrieve, and
use data resources.  Familiarity with statistical software packages such as
SAS or SPSS. Experience using electronic government resources that provide
statistics and data.  Understanding of the educational mission of a research
university and a demonstrated service orientation.  Outstanding written and
oral communications and interpersonal skills are essential. Evidence of
ability for ongoing professional development and contribution. An
ALA-accredited MLS or relevant advanced degree such as in Information
Science or Geography is required, with the ALA-accredited MLS preferred.
Two or more years¹ relevant experience preferred.  Salary: competitive and
commensurate with experience, minimum $43,000
