To ASIS&T Members who are attending SLA/Nashville --

Katherine Bertolucci's "Happiness Is Taxonomy" program will be featured at SLA Nashville on Tuesday June 8 at 2:00. This is a longer version of the program that was presented as part of the "Taxonomies, Controlled Vocabularies and Ontologies Panel" at the ASIS&T Information Architect's Summit in Austin.

Katherine Bertolucci, a taxonomy consultant with Isis Information Services in Phoenix, is the author of “Happiness Is Taxonomy: Four Structures for Snoopy.” She’ll look at the history of taxonomy and give you some tips on designing your own taxonomy using her techniques of perspective and persuasive taxonomy.

Joining her is Christine Connors, who built a taxonomy for Raytheon by leveraging traditional library skill sets and methods to provide high quality access to online data. She developed the taxonomy using tools such as data discovery, text analysis, focus groups and beta testing. Her program will share methods, hard lessons and future directions.

Beth Golden works with the taxonomy product offered by Factiva, a Dow Jones and Reuters Company. She’ll discuss how and why Factiva built the taxonomy, and the effort that goes into maintaining a taxonomy for customers.

Lois Weinstein, a medical library consultant in Bayshore, NY, is the Moderator.

You can also join Katherine Bertolucci at 3:45 on Tuesday June 8 for an open meeting of SLA’s Information Futurists Caucus.
