THE PROGRAM:
Everyone's heard of it: "508". A lot of people use the term but what does
it mean? What do you have to do? How do you go about it? Why should you?
From the "alt" attribute to animated images, information professionals
strive to make web sites usable for all visitors. Learn more about such
critical issues as assistive technology and what the law really requires of
your web site.
Amy Berger, Section 508 Coordinator for the US Geological Survey, will
educate us about the importance and the challenges of web site
accessibility. She instructs all US Geological Survey webmasters on the
necessities and requirements of Section 508 Compliance, as well as how to
fix the code itself. In 2002 she was interviewed by Government Computer
news, and is considered an expert on the topic. As she explains,"Section
508 doesn't mean don't include graphics, it means label them."
