DEAN, SCHOOL OF INFORMATION STUDIES

The Florida State University seeks nominations and applications for the
position of Dean of the School of Information Studies.  FSU is classified by
the Carnegie Foundation as research-extensive, and the School of Information
Studies has a national and international standing for its research efforts
that cut across a broad interdisciplinary perspective.  The Dean is the
administrative officer of the School and reports to the University Provost.
The position is a tenure-earning academic appointment. 

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree in a
relevant field with the academic credentials for appointment at professor
level and experience in the management of large and diverse organizations.
Salary is open and nationally competitive.

The University seeks an individual who is dedicated to visionary leadership
of the School, who offers a multi-disciplinary approach in a rapidly
evolving field, and who fosters integration of innovative information
technology into instruction, scholarly research, and administrative
management.  The successful candidate must work effectively within a complex
political/state university system and with a wide array of stakeholders.
This individual will demonstrate superior knowledge and past successful
endeavors in external fundraising and the development of private and public
sector partnerships, strategic and team-based management, management of
information technology, accreditation, and a commitment to excellence in
research, teaching, and service.

FSU's School of Information Studies is a leader in the education of
digital-age information technology specialists and librarians, has been
active in distance education since its inception, and is widely recognized
for its pioneering role in the areas of web-based education and
undergraduate information technology education.  The faculty comprises 35
interdisciplinary and award-winning individuals, active in teaching,
research, and service in an innovative school. Bachelor's, Master's, and
Specialist degrees are offered on and off campus via the WWW.  The Ph.D. is
offered as an on-campus degree.  The School currently enrolls 1,166
students.
