JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:			Knowledge Services Manager
(Intranet/Knowledge Management)

Reporting Relationship:

	Reports Directly to:	Director of Knowledge Services

	Supervises:		Knowledge Services Researcher

	Also works with:	Chief Administrative Officer
				Library managers and staff in all offices
				Client Relations managers and staff in all
offices
				IT managers, trainers, and staff in all
offices
				Applications Development/Web Development
staff
				Office Administrators and support service
department managers and staff in all offices 
				Content publishers and content mangers in
all support service departments and practice groups.


Summary of Responsibilities:

Assist with the development of a knowledge management strategy and tactical
plan for identifying, capturing, sharing, and transforming key information
and intellectual capital into value-added tools and resources. Provide
leadership in the areas of knowledge management, intranet design and
usability, and connectivity with information resources. Promote
organization-wide knowledge sharing to ensure the Firm's information and
expertise are shared inside and outside the organization, and disseminate
information about the Firm's knowledge sharing program to internal and
external audiences.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1.	Intranet:

a)	Assist practice groups and support service departments in their
efforts to acquire, organize, and disseminate knowledge content to
appropriate user communities.
b)	Manage the effective supply and use of internal information and its
integration into SquareOne.
c)	Communicate and promote the features and benefits of SquareOne to
internal users firmwide.
d)	Coordinate the training of content publishers. Develop and maintain
content publisher and end user training materials.
e)	Provide support for end user and content publisher questions.
Coordinate with Web Development Supervisor to resolve technical problems.
f)	Coordinate pre-release testing of new features, organizing and
managing pilot groups as necessary.
g)	Facilitate communication and coordination among content contributors
and application developers. Work with the Web Development team to create and
collaborate on a consistent, logical, and navigable user experience based on
underlying business needs, usability, and design best practices. 
h)	Contribute to the overall strategic direction and vision of Firm
intranet.

1.	Knowledge Management:

a)	Provide leadership in the development of Firm processes,
infrastructure, and information resources that facilitate the building and
effective utilization of a corporate knowledge base. This will include
ensuring that:
*	information needs are understood and acknowledged. 
*	information resources and intellectual assets are identified and
managed on an integrated basis. 
*	processes exist to facilitate the acquisition and sharing of
information and knowledge. 
a)	Develop and maintain an enterprise-wide taxonomy model to classify
and organize data retained in Firm systems.
b)	Promote knowledge sharing by improving integration among information
systems in the organization to facilitate the exchange of information across
systems.
c)	Develop and implement a firmwide system to deliver competitive and
business intelligence to Client Relations teams firmwide. Manage the process
of acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting business research data to satisfy
organizational business development objectives.
d)	Provide primary and secondary information resource expertise to
practice groups and support service departments.
e)	Coordinate the testing and review of digital information resources
and new technologies to enhance delivery and facilitate internal access to
information.
f)	Monitor trends and emerging technologies in research and information
services. Develop new and innovative means of communicating with internal
clients and disseminating ideas and information. 

1.	Supervisory:

a)	Manage and evaluate Knowledge Services Researcher.
b)	Perform annual performance evaluations on direct reports.
c)	Plan and recommend compensation. 


Skills Required:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proven technical,
organizational and leadership skills. Exceptional organizational and project
management skills. Ability to get consensus and collaboration across
offices, departments, and practice groups. Knowledge and expertise in the
area of intranet technology and database management. Knowledge of a wide
range of print and electronic information resources. 


Education and Experience Required:

Masters Degree in Library Science from an accredited school.
