(Cross-posted. Please excuse any duplication.)

Three IEEE journals have published interesting new articles on the future
of search technologies. All three are available for free online.

First, IEEE MultiMedia looks at the growing amount of visual information
available electronically, and asks "Is It Time for a Moratorium on
Metadata?"
http://www.computer.org/multimedia/mu2004/promo1.pdf

IEEE Intelligent Systems looks at the problems encountered with searches
conducted on mobile systems, like cell phones, and offers a solution:

Finally, IEEE Distributed Systems Online addresses personalization and
other search topics and asks "What's Next in Web Search?"

I hope these provide useful and worthy of discussion.
