Assistant Professor Faculty Position,
School of Library and Information Studies, University of Oklahoma
The School of Library and Information Studies, University of Oklahoma
invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to begin Fall 2004
at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will have
primary responsibility for research, teaching, and service at the
University of Oklahoma's Norman campus. The research and teaching goals of
the School focus on applications of information and communications
technologies, services to multicultural populations with special emphasis
on Native Americans, and interdisciplinary approaches to information
problems. The OU School of Library and Information Studies offers an
ALA-accredited master's degree, a master's degree in Knowledge Management,
a bachelor's degree in Information Studies, and a post-master's
certificate. Dual master's degree programs are offered in conjunction with
the Department of History of Science and the College of Education. Further

The faculty position is a nine-month appointment, with possible
opportunities for summer teaching. Faculty assignments include teaching at
the School's main sites in Norman and Tulsa and at other instructional
sites as needed, research, and service. Instruction is provided both live
on-site and via telecommunications and digital technology. Experience or
demonstrated ability in design and delivery of courses in a variety of
formats, including distance learning modes, is highly desirable.
Required qualifications: doctoral degree in library and information science
or a related field completed or nearing completion; record of published
research or demonstrated research potential; expertise in new and
developing information, communications, and instructional technologies;
ability to work with multiple internal and external constituencies;
expertise and ability to teach in one or more of the following areas:
organization of information; cataloging and classification; metadata;
taxonomies; design, use, and evaluation of information resources and
services; knowledge management; information transfer; archives; records
management; preservation. Faculty are expected to teach in one or more
required course areas.
