[Asis-l] LA airport and getting to Long Beach

Dear ASIS attendees,
I've had questions about getting to the Long Beach hotel.
Generally, taxis or shuttle buses are the best, and will take about
30-45 minutes from LAX (LA airport) to the hotel. I don't have the
price, but you can find out at the airport.
There are two kinds of shuttle buses at the LA airport. One
is the big, full-sized buses that take you around to different
terminals in the airport. These are free. The other are smaller,
usually brightly colored, buses that carry 8-20 people for hotels,
car rental agencies, and personal transportation.
There are 8 terminals around a big U. As you exit your
terminal with your baggage, there will be, in front of each terminal,
spread out to your left and right, 4 or 5 different types of bus
stops, each marked by a different colored sign overhead. I forget
the exact names and colors for each (I'm in Finland right now!), but
each type of stop handles a different type of bus. Look for a stop
that handles the kind of little shuttle bus that goes, for a price,
to any address. Buses of any type stop only at their assigned color.
The subway does not go from the airport to Long Beach. Here
is the information I've found from the transit agency's website for
the LAX-Long Beach trip by bus, if you want the cheapest route (a
couple dollars). The hotel is about a block from the convention
center. Check with the driver in case there is a stop closer to the
hotel than the convention center. Going by an LA Metro bus is
lengthy and noisy, and I wouldn't take this trip late at night.

Starting at Lax

Take Lot C Shuttle (AIRPORT PARKING - 96TH ST)
Get off at Lax Transit Center

Go to Lax Transit Center Dock 8
Take Metro Bus 232 West (LONG BEACH TRANS. MALL)
Get off at 1st St / Long Beach Blvd

Ending at Long Beach Convention Center

Estimated Travel Time: 1 Hour 23 Minutes

So you understand what's happening, the Airport shuttle Bus C is
taking you to the general Los Angeles bus transit station a few
blocks from the airport. At that transit station is where you get
all general LA buses going anywhere in the region.
