TENURE-TRACK AND TENURED FACULTY POSITIONS AVAILABLE
The Department of Library and Information Science at Rutgers University
is searching for three new faculty members, to begin in Fall 2004, whose
teaching and/or research interests fall into one of the following areas:
* Knowledge and information organization and representation (e.g.,
metadata and other forms of cataloging; classification)
* Children's and young adult literature, and/or youth services in
public libraries
* Information sources, services and access, with special interest in
health information
These positions are available at tenure-track or tenured levels,
depending upon qualifications. Successful candidates for tenure-track
positions will hold the Ph.D. degree in library and information science,
or related relevant fields, and will have demonstrated experience and
promise in both teaching and research. Successful candidates for tenured
positions will have an established record of internationally-recognized
research, of high-quality teaching, and of significant professional
leadership and service.
The Department of Library and Information Science is a constituent of
the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies, an
interdisciplinary school with departments of Communication and of
Journalism and Media Studies. Members of the Department teach in its
Undergraduate Program in Information Technology and Informatics, in the
Masters Program in Library and Information Science, in the school-wide
Ph.D. Program in Communication, Information and Library Studies, and in
the school-wide Masters in Communication and Information Studies. The
Department's specializations in School Media and in Youth Services are
both top rated, and the recently established Center for International
Scholarship in School Libraries significantly furthers these
specializations. The Department's research and teaching in human
information behavior and in information retrieval and related areas is
recognized as among the most significant world-wide. The Department is
committed to establishing a specialization in health information, an
area of interest in both the School and in ongoing plans at Rutgers
University. We seek dedicated, dynamic scholars who will help us to
build upon our strengths, and to extend our capabilities in new and
significant directions. We especially invite applications from those
with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to problems of
information in society.
