ANNUAL CAREER NIGHT
Co-Sponsored by Cleveland Chapter Special Libraries Association
and NORASIST, the Northern Ohio Chapter, American Society for
Information Science and Technology
MARTIN JAFFE, Master Career Counselor
Work: In the Way of Life, or a Way of Life...
Back by popular demand, this is a meeting for everyone, as Marty Jaffe
returns to SLA for "careers, part II!" Satisfy your current, present, or
next job requirements, along with your career desires. With Marty's
guidance, you'll ask yourself questions such as:
- Have you reached a career pinnacle...or need to maintain it?
- Do you see your ideal job as being 5-7 years ahead?
- Are you deciding--or refining--what's possible for you?
- What other avenues does librarianship offer?
Re-ground yourself periodically, and take time for an assessment of key
skills for your future--whether it's in your current role, or the next one.
You never know where the next opportunity is going to take you. Also, Marty
is an expert at taking dreaming and vision into the real-world career plan,
not just the job of today (or tomorrow.)
Marty began his career as a librarian and now manages the famed InfoPLACE.
He says his presentation offers a "workshop for life, what looks best for
you, and how to plan for it." As a nationally certified master career
counselor (MCC), and a certified career development facilitator instructor
(CDFI), he has much to share--you owe it to yourself to be there.
We extend a warm invitation to all NE Ohio information professionals to join
Ohio's graduate library science students for this event. Your experiences
are invaluable to future librarians. If you were fortunate to have someone
mentor you or offer golden advice, here's the opportunity to return it. You
have much to offer, and your career advice is always a highlight for
graduate students.
SLA always welcomes students at regular meetings, and understands when
student classes prevent their regular attendance. This date is a no-conflict
time suggested by SLIS students. Save the date--join us for a casual dinner,
good conversation ( you might find the next intern at the meeting), and a
great presentation for yourself and your career.
