MANAGING THE ORGANIZATION

Monday and Tuesday, August 4 & 5, 2003 at Ohio Valley Area Libraries (OVAL),
252 West Thirteenth Street, Wellston, Ohio

Managing an organization is a lot like
a) juggling soap bubbles;
b) herding cats;
c) leaving the last bite of chocolate cake on your plate;
or d) all of the above.
If you answered a, b, c, OR d, then you will discover some helpful and
realistic guidance in this workshop. Using presentations, discussions, and
exercises, you'll explore the nature and techniques of keeping that boat
headed in the right direction.

Topics Include:
Creating a vision;
evaluating the organization;
creating a mission, objectives and goals;
dealing with change;
planning for continual growth;
linking mission/goals to financial reality.

About our presenter: Mary Stansbury has a MLS and PhD in Library Science and
is an Assistant Professor in the School of Library & Information Science at
Kent State University. Mary teaches courses in foundations of librarianship,
reference, and information policy. She is also a public library trustee
(Hudson, Ohio) and has experience creating organizational visions and
strategic plans. A native Texan, Mary is looking forward to being in a part
of the state where "y'all" is not given a second glance.
