Faculty Opening (Tenure/Tenure track)
The School of Library & Information Science, The Catholic University of
America, invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty
position to begin in the fall 2003 semester. We seek an energetic
individual with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Archives, Museum Librarianship, Public Librarianship or School Media.
Knowledge of and experience with information technologies is highly
desirable. Candidates must be able to teach in one or more of our core
course areas - Organization of Information, Information Sources and
Services, Information Systems in Libraries and Information Centers, and
Libraries and Information in Society. This opening is a wonderful
opportunity for an individual who would like to work in the rich and
stimulating information environment of the Washington metropolitan area.
The school offers courses at several off-campus sites in Virginia and at
the Library of Congress. Candidates are expected to teach one course a
year at one of our off campus sites--either in person, or on the web
For appointment as Associate Professor, candidates should have the
following minimum credentials:
* An earned doctoral degree in library and information
science or a closely related field.
* Consistent research productivity, giving evidence of a
high level of scholarly ability and expectation of future recognition
and advancement in academic achievement together with reasonable rates
of publication
* Distinctive professional service
* At least 4 years of service as a regular faculty member
* Demonstrated competence as a teacher and the ability to
use technology for teaching and learning
For appointment as Assistant Professor, candidates should have the
following minimum credentials:
* An earned doctoral degree in library and information
science or a closely related field completed before taking up the
appointment.
* Demonstrated potential as a researcher
* Demonstrated teaching ability and the ability to use
technology for teaching and learning.
Opportunities exist for faculty members to develop and teach web based
distance courses. Summer teaching opportunities are available. All
candidates must have a developed research agenda and publications
commensurate with experience. A willingness and ability to attract
grants is highly desirable.
The school has a small but outstanding, productive and highly collegial
faculty. The campus is located in Washington, DC only minutes from the
Library of Congress, the Capitol, the National Archives, and the
Smithsonian Institution. There is a Metro stop on campus.
