Manager, Acquisitions & Serials
Santa Monica, CA

Reporting to the Library Director, the Manager leads and manages the work of
the Acquisitions & Serials Department, including monographic and serials
acquisitions in all formats. Responsibilities include supervising the work
of staff; managing the materials budget; analyzing and improving workflows,
policies, procedures and organization; contributing to the work of the
Collection Services team (comprising Cataloging, Systems and Acquisitions). 

Position entails assisting the Library Director in negotiation of contracts
and licenses, license compliance, and record keeping for digital
acquisitions. Serve as primary liaison with materials vendors; monitor
trends in electronic publishing and licensing. Analyze workflows and
establish procedures that capitalize on automation developments. Participate
in Library Management and Collection Services teams. Maintain professional
contacts and current trends through participation in professional
organizations and review of professional literature. 

Educational requirements: Advanced degree in information management from an
ALA accredited institution or equivalent background and experience. 

Specific technical skills required: Knowledge of monographic and/or serials
acquisitions, knowledge of bibliographic utilities and integrated library
systems (Sirsi, STILAS/UNICORN system a plus). Excellent written and oral
communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with colleagues, publishers, vendors and the library user
community. 

Related experience required: 3-5 years. 

Type of experience required/preferred: Fiscal management and supervision.
