PIUG 2004 ANNUAL CONFERENCE
An International Conference for Patent Information Professionals
Focus: Worldwide Patent Information - Back to the Basics
Date: May 22-27, 2004
Location: Baltimore, MD, USA
Call for Speakers
The Patent Information Users Group (PIUG) Annual Conference will feature
world-renowned experts on patent information for technology research and
planning, for legal organizations, and for overall corporate IP management
(technology licensing and related activities). The conference will include
many opportunities for discussion during one of our three panel discussions:
"Ask PIUG", "Ask the manager" , and "Ask the expert". Tuesday afternoon
will be dedicated to product reviews. Many workshops will also be held in
conjunction with this meeting (before and after the technical session). We
expect 400 participants.
The Program Committee is looking for abstracts for the Technical Session
from corporate, patent office, law firm, or independent patent information
users who are able to discuss methods for finding and presenting patent
information, especially using alternative sources (i.e, to complement
searching on STN, Dialog, and Questel-Orbit and/or specific non-patent files
which are helpful for legal searches such as patentability, etc.).
Please send your proposed speaker name, biography, full contact information,
presentation title, and abstract. If you think you may be interested in
speaking but require management approval beforehand, please let us know of
your intention so that we can begin to consider your general proposal for a
paper in the meantime (just a few descriptive sentences will do).
Please let us know as soon as possible of your intention for although
abstract submissions can be made at any time the program slots will be
filling. Invited speakers will take precedence over those submitting
abstracts. Please be advised that your abstract will not go beyond the
Program Committee without your permission.
Events may or may not run concurrently, at the discretion of the program
committee. Times allocated for each speaker and their relative order for
inclusion in the program are based on the anticipated relevancy and interest
level to the meeting attendees, as determined by the program committee, and
by the schedule and appropriate session availability.

The Patent Information Users Group, Inc. (PIUG), the International Society
for Patent Information, is a not-for-profit organization for individuals
having a professional, scientific or technical interest in patent
information. With the ever increasing volume of patents and related
technical documents, the effective retrieval and analysis of patent
information has become an essential skill in business. The mission of PIUG
is therefore to encourage the development of patent information research and
analysis systems, to further develop members' patent research and analysis
skills, and to provide appropriate recognition for its members excelling in
the field. Through this international forum and discussion, we promote and
improve the retrieval, analysis and dissemination of patent information.
