IEEE HOLDS TWO REGIONAL USER GROUPS THIS FALL
Offers Librarians Forum to Provide Feedback on IEEE Products and Services
18 August 2003 -- Piscataway, NJ -- The Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced that it will hold two regional users
group meetings this fall for its library customers. Attending librarians
will have the opportunity to network with their peers, provide feedback for
ongoing IEEE product development, and learn about upcoming new IEEE online
products and features.
The first fall meeting will be held October 2 at the University of
Maryland-College Park. The second will be held November 2 in Monterey,
California, during the Internet Librarian Conference. Academic, corporate
and government librarians in the Mid-Atlantic and California regions, and
those who plan on attending the Internet Librarian Conference, are
encouraged to attend. (Please see contact information below.)
IEEE has held user group meetings in New Jersey, California,
Massachusetts, North Carolina and Florida. IEEE plans to host future events
around the country, allowing libraries from many geographic areas easy
access if they wish to attend.
"The user group meetings are a great idea," said Audrey Harvey,
Technical Library Manager at Agere Systems Inc, who attended a recent user
group meeting. "I enjoyed meeting and exchanging ideas with other IEEE
customers. It was also a nice opportunity to meet IEEE staff, give feedback
and hear about new product features. I hope this is an ongoing event."
"To my knowledge, IEEE is one of the only society publishers offering
this type of communication opportunity," said Jonathan Dahl, Staff
Director, IEEE Sales & Marketing. "Librarians have been instrumental in the
development of the IEEE Xplore interface and other new IEEE online
collections, like the IEEE Biomedical Engineering Library. We are very
happy to facilitate ongoing customer relationships through these regional
meetings."
Anyone interested in attending the October 2 event in Maryland should
contact Ruth Wolfish, IEEE Customer Relations Manager for the Eastern
United States, at r.wolfish at ieee.org. Those interested in the November 2
event in Monterey may contact Rachel Berrington, IEEE Customer Relations
Manager for the Western United States, at r.berrington at ieee.org.
