The 12-12-12 MLIS Distance Degree Program is designed to provide a
well-balanced degree program leading to an MLIS degree for potential
students in Southern and Appalachian Ohio and the tri-state region who might
otherwise not be able to complete a degree through the School.

OVAL Director Jimmie Epling states, "OVAL's goal is to bring high quality
professional and technical training opportunities to libraries in Southern
Ohio. OVAL worked very hard in late 2001 to entice Kent State to offer its
post-graduate program in library and information science in our region. Our
efforts were rewarded in September 2002 with the beginning of the 12-12-12
Distance Degree Masters of Library and Information Science Program classes
at OVAL. We are pleased to announce that the University's School of Library
and Information Science has asked us to host a second cycle of Masters
classes beginning this August. The training those who participate will
receive in this program will benefit all of our communities, schools, and
libraries in Southern Ohio."

Interested students are encouraged to begin the application process now.
Information on the program is available on the School's web site
(www.slis.kent.edu), but calls to the Office (330-672-2782) are also
encouraged. A list of classes that will be offered at OVAL may also be found
at our Web site (www.oval.lib.oh.us/kent/).
