Faculty Position Announcement
Information Science
The School of Information and Library Science at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill invites nominations and applications for a
tenure-track faculty position (at assistant, associate, or full professor
rank). The School offers an undergraduate minor in information systems,
master's degrees in information science and library science, and the PhD
(see http://www.ils.unc.edu for details). A new undergraduate major in
information science will be initiated in January 2003 and the successful
candidate will be involved in developing and sustaining this major.
The School seeks a dynamic colleague with an active research agenda and
excellent teaching ability with expertise in an area of information
science, such as database management, digital libraries, information
architecture, knowledge organization and management, or systems design and
evaluation. Candidates should possess strong technical depth to teach and
develop courses in both the Master's and Undergraduate programs and be
comfortable in a highly interdisciplinary environment. Faculty members are
expected to engage in research, to teach at both the undergraduate and
graduate levels, to advise students, to serve on School and University
committees, and to be active participants in professional associations.
An earned doctorate is required. Applicants should provide evidence of
research and teaching excellence in their area of expertise. Salary and
rank will be commensurate with qualifications and position level.
