New Library Management Workshops this Fall!

The College of Information Studies
Continuing Education Program
University of Maryland
Presents the following Library Management Workshop:

Library Fund Raising: Principles, Trends, and Techniques

Knowledge of library fund raising is quickly becoming a prerequisite for
library professionals. Whether you are just entering the profession or are
a seasoned professional, understanding the principles and practices of
library fund raising should be in your portfolio of skills that can give you
a competitive edge, especially as you progress into library administration
and management.

This workshop will provide the basics of library fund raising principles,
describe some national trends within the academic library realm, and discuss
effective techniques for raising private funding for libraries.

Who should attend?

This workshop is for librarians and library development officers - whether
you need to build your fund raising foundation or refresh your skills and
explore new ideas. It will be geared to those with limited knowledge of
fund raising for libraries, or those who are just beginning to start a fund
raising program or position. While many of the examples are based on
academic library experiences, the information provided will be helpful to
all types of libraries.

What's included? This six-hour session will be divided into two parts:

Basics of Library Fund Raising
* Orientation and overview of the issues, organization, challenges and
     opportunities of library fund raising
* The fund raising cycle: identify, cultivate, involve, solicit, steward
* Fund raising vehicles from annual fund to planned giving

Library Fund Raising Ideas, Initiatives and Strategies
* The key elements that make a fund raising program successful
* Planning for success
* Examples of successful library programs, ideas and initiatives

The workshop will provide ample time for discussion and problem solving for
your particular situation. A bibliography of library fund raising resources
will be provided
