FACULTY POSITION

The Faculty of the School of Library and Information Sciences is seeking a 
colleague to teach and conduct research in the area of information systems 
and database design.  The successful candidate will play a leadership role 
in curriculum development and will be expected to advise students and serve 
as a liaison to the library and information science community.  An earned 
doctorate in an appropriate field and a record of research and publication 
for appointment at the assistant professor level is preferred.  Doctoral 
candidates may be considered for appointment.  Position is tenure-track and 
begins spring or fall, 2003.  Areas of specialization might include one or 
more of the following:

Information retrieval, visualization, human-computer-interface design, 
database design and implementation, imaging, networked environments and 
telecommunication.

The School has a thriving Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program in Information 
Science and serves as host to the Texas Center for Digital Knowledge (see 
www.txcdk.org) and it is hoped that this position would participate in 
both.  The School has over 3 million dollars in endowed funds, which 
provide support for a strong residential program.  We also serve as the 
model, and often a laboratory- for the University in the distributed 
learning arena.

The University of North Texas is located at the apex of the Dallas-Fort 
Worth metroplex, and is a comprehensive graduate and research university 
with an enrollment of over 30,000 students.  Benefits include a choice of 
retirement systems (including TIAA/CREF) and employer-funded health insurance.

Faculty positions are for nine months with opportunities for summer 
teaching.  Salaries are competitive and commensurate with
