Workshop on Developing Digital Libraries Education and Training Programs,
at the ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries, Portland, Oregon,
July 18.

Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the
following: 

	Survey of DL education 
o	Courses offered in related fields (e.g., Computer Science, Library
        & Information Science, New Media, etc.) concentrating on DL issues 
o	Short DL training programs 
o	In-depth treatment of DL in certificate programs and specializations 

	Curriculum 
o	Core competencies in technical areas 
o	Core competencies in user, social, and legal areas 
o	Management of projects, systems, and people 
	Practical Experiences 
o	Connecting with projects within libraries, museums, and archives 
o	Levels of engagement (e.g., Assignments, Capstone project, 
        Internship, Thesis, etc.) 

	Nuts & Bolts of Program Execution 
o	Program planning and development 
o	Cost, fund-raising, sponsorships, tuition, etc. 
o	Linking and collaborating with diverse educational programs and
        departments in the university 
o	Program marketing and orientation 
	Evaluation 
o	Methodologies and measurement instruments 
o	Ongoing evaluation (formative) 

Short papers are invited for the workshop (2-page maximum length in JCDL
format). Send PDF-formatted file as email attachment to both workshop
chairs. Upon review by the program committee, the accepted papers will be
published on the web. Authors of the accepted papers will be invited to
make presentations at the workshop. The chairs are currently seeking
collaborations with a few key journals to develop a special issue on DL
education. Authors of accepted papers will be invited to submit
full-length articles to the special issue upon selection of a journal. 

Papers will be reviewed by a panel of experts in the area: Kris
Brancolini, Indiana University (co-chair), Jon Dunn, Indiana University,
Rebecca Graham, Johns Hopkins University, Javed Mostafa, Indiana
University (co-chair), Elizabeth Shaw, University of Pittsburgh, and
Thorny Staples, University of Virginia.
