The Ohio Valley Area Libraries (OVAL) Regional Library System, located in

GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS AND RESOURCES

Government information is now more accessible than ever via the World Wide
Web, yet the breadth and volume can be overwhelming.  This workshop will
help you find facts, statistics, and legislative information about Federal,
State, and Local agencies and governments.  It will help you access
government information resources more efficiently.  Learn and evaluate
'official' and 'unofficial' sites such as GPO Access and Thomas.  Surf for
legislative information using Legal and Government search engines and
indices.  Learn how to use other sources of information such as Statistical
Abstracts, Business Census, FindLaw and many others.

Would you like to learn how to reap the benefits of the Ohio Capital
Connection?  This workshop will teach you how to use the Ohio Capital
Connection web site to search for current and historical information on the
Ohio State Legislature.  With hands-on activities, this workshop will give
you the opportunity to hone your skills at searching this complex database.
Exercises will give you practice searching within documents and finding
information about local legislators.  Government documents, public documents
and news, federal, state, and local government information are covered, as
well as how to promote the use of the Ohio Capital Connection.

CATALOGING MUSIC AND BOOKS ON TAPE
Presented by: Carol Bradsher, Experiential Learning
Cost: $100 for non-members
The sound recordings format is a broad one and includes popular and
classical music on cassette or compact disc, and books on tape/CD.  This
workshop will give you the skills to catalog sound recordings confidently,
including the difference in recording a statement of responsibility between
popular and classical music, recording publication dates correctly,
identifying main entry headings for music and spoken word recordings and
describing the physical format for cassettes and compact discs.
Participants are encouraged to bring examples for practice.

Do patrons frequently ask you how to look up information on the Internet
about health issues?  Do you have difficulty sorting through all the
Internet health materials available in search of credible information?  Then
this workshop is for you!  This workshop will review outstanding health
reference and research Internet sites for librarians and public health
professionals.   Participants will receive a lecture, demos of web sites
with suggested search tips, and examples of how to answer health reference
questions.  Participants will  also have the opportunity to apply newly
learned material with hands-on exercises.

THE ABC'S OF DISABILITY AWARENESS: PEOPLE FIRST, DISABILITY SECOND
Location: Chillicothe & Ross County Public Library, Chillicothe, OH
Presented by: Laura Gold, Director, ADA/Accessibility Services, Services for
Independent Living, Cleveland
Cost: $80 for non-member
Public libraries, as well as all public facilities, serve a large variety of
different peoples with different needs.  Of these peoples, those with
disabilities have very particular needs.  At this workshop, participants
will learn how to best serve the needs of the disabled population from a
member of that population.  Presenter Laura Gold is the Director of the ADA
/ Accessibility Services.   Aside from her professional accreditation, Ms.
Gold will be able to give true insight into serving those with disabilities
because of her own hearing impairment.  Come and learn from Ms. Gold how to
make your library or public facility conducive to the needs of the disabled
population.
