Who decides on the national book awards for children? What is the process?
What makes the Caldecott Award unique among the awards given to children's
books? What are some of the best picture books released in 2002? Come hear
about the award process and have an opportunity to vote on your favorite
picture book for the coveted Caldecott Award. Then see how OVAL's winners
compare with the real ones to be announced in January 2003. Sue McCleaf
Nespeca from Kid Lit Plus Consulting, member of the 1993 Caldecott Committee
and Chair of the 2003 Sibert Committee (Informational Books) will answer
these questions and direct the mock election.

Workshop Objectives:
~To allow participants the opportunity to read and also evaluate the
illustrations of some of the most distinguished picture books published in
2002
~To understand criteria and guidelines that are important when selecting
Caldecott Award winners
~To understand the election process involved in awarding the Caldecott Medal
and Honor Books

Come visit OVAL and LEARN!
