SOASIST announces

2002 Student Scholarship Essay Competition 

The Southern Ohio chapter of the American Society for Information Science
and Technology is sponsoring a student scholarship essay competition in
2002.  This competition is intended to encourage students in Library and
Information Science programs to participate in the activities of
professional associations.

AWARD:  the winner will receive reimbursement funding up to US $1,000 for
registration, airfare, food, and lodging expenses to attend the ASIST 2002
Annual Meeting: "Knowledge, Connections and Community," November 18 - 21, in
Philadelphia, PA and a one-year membership in ASIST.  

ELIGIBILITY:  all students enrolled in library and information
science/information studies programs who live in Ohio or Kentucky are
eligible to enter.  Current membership in ASIST is not required to enter the
competition.  

TO ENTER:  compose an essay that addresses the following question:  "What
specific benefits do I hope to gain by attending the ASIST 2002 Annual
Meeting?"  (The Conference theme is described in more detail on the ASIST
Web page at: (http://www.asis.org/am02cfp.html).  Essays should not exceed
400 words or two typed doubled-spaced pages.  Do not identify yourself or
your school in the essay.  Submit the essay with a separate cover sheet
listing your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number and school by
the deadline of September 10, 2002 to:

Essays may be submitted by regular mail, email or FAX (513-865-1655) to the
attention of:  Patricia J. Carter.  Essays will be judged by a panel of
SOASIST members.  The winner will be notified by September 13, 2002, and
his/her essay will be published in the SOASIST newsletter.  

REIMBURSEMENT:  Award winner will submit receipts substantiating travel and
conference-related expenses, such as costs for registration, airfare, food,
and lodging.  The winner will also be expected to meet with a SOASIST
representative at the Conference.
