Digital Libraries Lecture Series
for
Students, Scholars & Information Professionals


Undergraduates, graduate students, scholars and information
professionals are invited to a free, four-part lecture series starting
Thursday, September 5, from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the William J.
Byron, S.J. Auditorium, Columbus School of Law on the campus of The
Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, D.C. 
	 The series, "Tomorrow's Digital Libraries: Are You Ready?" is
sponsored by CUA's  School of Library and Information Science and the
Fairfax County Public Library Center for the Book.  The series will
address:
·	How information is organized in the digital age, and what skills
and knowledge are needed to use digital resources;
·	Digital rights management, intellectual freedom, privacy, child
protection, copyright, ethics and related areas;
·	The impact of technology on information management, access, and
research; 
·	Increasing corporate productivity through technology; and
·	Making valuable information available to students, scholars and
other researchers through cooperation among university libraries,
archives, computer centers, research groups and centers for excellence.
Dr. Robert Martin, director of the Institute of Library and Museum
Services and the National Endowment for the Arts, is one of several
information professionals who will address these issues at four lectures
during the 2002-2003 academic year.  Dr. Martin will present  "Blurring
the Boundaries" from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 5. The lecture will be
followed by a reception.  Other speakers in the series include Daniel
Pitti, project director of the Institute for Advanced Technology in the
Humanities; and Laura M. Eisenmann, architecture manager for Ernst and
Young's KnowledgeWeb.
