POSTING - MANAGER, SERIALS ACQUISITION AND MANAGEMENT

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee and guide all aspects of serials acquisition, control of print and
electronic serials,  and management of serials in support of Gale's
periodical products, including subscription management (ordering, tracking,
claiming and renewals), cataloging, and routing of serials to editorial
staff and data conversion vendors. Develop and manage optimal serials
acquisition and management processes that take full advantage of automation
capabilities.  Collaborate with variety of internal Gale functional areas as
well as oversee activities and manage relationships with subscription and
other third party vendors.

Manage staff of serials acquisition professionals in supporting Gale's
periodical production operation, providing leadership, strategic direction
and industry-related guidance to team. Establish and maintain serials
subscriptions and other operational budgets, as appropriate.  Implement and
maintain a variety of performance methodology and measurements (quality,
accuracy, timeliness, cost-effectiveness, etc.) that ensure exceptional
product support and efficient periodical and newspaper acquisition and
maintenance operations.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree in library science (MLS) preferred.  Bachelor's degree and
equivalent training and/or work related experience may be considered.  Solid
background and understanding of AACR2, USMARC, CONSER guidelines and related
cataloging and metadata standards.  Three to five years' progressively more
responsible management experience in serials acquisition and management in a
corporate or library environment. Proven ability to manage cataloging,
claiming and interaction with subscription services and publishers
Experience with an online bibliographic utility and integrated library
systems.  Strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal
communication skills.    Proven analytical and negotiation skills; solid
organizational skills to manage multiple time-sensitive projects.
Experience managing, scheduling and/or coordinating work flow processes and
supporting systems, preferably utilizing electronic/database tools.  Proven
ability to provide strategic guidance.  Solid management skills to lead and
influence the activities of staff, peers and others.
